How Volume Affects Your Shipping Rate
Volume is one input among several. FedEx's small business pages, checked in October 2026, say that a free account includes built-in discounts with no high-volume minimum, and also that some FedEx discounts are based on shipping volume. FedEx publishes no discount percentages there.
- Parcel count. More parcels over a longer period give a provider more to build a rate around.
- Shipment mix. Weight, size and zone change the price of each parcel.
- Service level. Overnight, 2-Day, Ground and International are priced differently.
- Consistency. Our FedEx pricing is built around long-term shipping volume, not a single large month.
Because those inputs differ for every shipper, we do not publish a fixed discount. Request a quote to see the rate for your own parcels.
What Makes Up Your Bulk Shipping Cost
A volume discount is only one part of the bill. FedEx's published information, checked in October 2026, shows the others:
- Billable weight. FedEx charges on dimensional weight or actual weight, whichever is greater, using a divisor of 139. Our guide explains dimensional weight.
- Delivery zone. Zones are set by the origin and destination ZIP codes.
- Extra charges. FedEx lists fees such as Additional Handling, Delivery Area Surcharge, Residential Delivery Charge and Address Correction.
- Annual changes. FedEx says standard list rates will rise an average of 5.9% on January 4, 2027, and that minimum rates will also increase.
Peak-Season Demand Surcharges for 2026
FedEx adds demand surcharges per package during peak season. These are its published U.S. domestic amounts, checked in October 2026.
| Service | Oct. 26 to Nov. 22, 2026 | Nov. 23 to Dec. 27, 2026 | Dec. 28, 2026 to Jan. 17, 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| FedEx First, Priority and Standard Overnight (excluding One Rate) | $1.30 | $2.55 | $1.30 |
| FedEx 2Day and Express Saver (excluding One Rate) | $1.20 | $2.35 | $1.20 |
| FedEx Ground and Home Delivery, residential | $0.50 | $0.80 | $0.50 |
FedEx also lists demand charges for Additional Handling and Oversize, plus a separate weekly demand charge on residential delivery. That weekly charge applies only to enterprise-level customers shipping more than 20,000 residential and Ground Economy packages in a calculation week. Ask whether a discount covers these charges, because a discount on base rates may not.
Pickups and Label Tools for High-Volume Shipping
Volume changes how parcels leave your building and how labels get made. FedEx describes these options, as checked in October 2026:
- Regularly scheduled pickups. FedEx says they could be the best fit for a daily shipper with predictable volume. They require FedEx automation for all shipments and a one-time enrollment.
- On-call pickups. FedEx calls these a flexible option for occasional shippers.
- Multi-piece shipments. FedEx Ship Manager supports up to 40 packages per shipment.
- Repeat shipments. Shipment profiles prefill details, and an address book can be imported from a CSV file.
- Connected stores. FedEx says connected stores can create labels for hundreds of shipments with one click.
FedEx says it began a new pricing and rating structure for parcel pickups on August 18, 2025, so ask what pickup fees apply to you. Also ask which of these tools apply to shipments booked through us.
Questions to Ask About Any Bulk Shipping Quote
Use the same questions with every provider, including us:
- Which services and surcharges does the discount apply to?
- What volume is the pricing based on, and what happens if my volume changes?
- How are peak-season demand surcharges handled?
- How do pickups, labels and tracking work for my daily volume?
- Can the service connect to my store, order system or warehouse software?
- How does the price change when FedEx updates its rates each year?
